Talk:  One Real Good Answer From Karen Fant

The Round Table

You know, one of the most important tools that a parent has in regards to this earth, is time.

Our house is a gathering place for kids, all kinds of teenagers, and younger kids in the past.  They range in age from 14 – 21....  Most have a hard time at home with different issues.

A constant at my house is what they call the “round table.”  This is our dining room table.  When you come sit at this table, whatever you say is kept there.  You can talk about feelings, happenings and other things that may be on your mind.  You will never be ridiculed, nor will you find scorn.  What you will find are others willing to listen, guidance and love, and always a hot meal…  I have heard anything from how it feels to go home to a mom who is passed out all the time from drugs/alcohol, to kids that feel that their parents just don’t care[.  I] . . . have had to, at times, help the child to report abuse.

There are times that on weekends we will sit 10 – 15 deep around this table and just talk about what is going on with them, they just want someone to listen,  - listen, not lecture.  Usually the other kids will point the wounded ones in the right direction – and end up  taking them under their wings and showing them how Christ would have them bring their hearts to him.  Teenagers are the BEST!!  I love the time I am able to spend with them.

There are so many issues facing our youth today – so much more than when I was a teenager – they are not the only ones who learn new things at the round table, by listening to them, I am  able to learn about how it is to be a teenager today.  It is a scary world out there, but with guidance from His Word, the children are able to take a stand and show others that to be a Christian is the best and only way to be  - and be ok in today’s society.

God bless you and yours!!
